Abstract

ÀÌ·¯ÇÑ °á°ú´Â È£Èí¸í»óÀÌ ¿ù°æÀüÁõÈıºÀ» °æÇèÇÏ´Â ¿©¼ºµéÀÇ ½ÅüÀû °íÅëÀ» °¨¼Ò½ÃÅ°´Âµ¥ µµ¿òÀ» ÁÙ ¼ö ÀÖÀ» °ÍÀÌ¶ó ¿©°ÜÁø´Ù. µû¶ó¼­ º» ¿¬±¸ÀÚ´Â ¿ù°æÀüÁõÈıº Áõ»ó °¨¼Ò¿¡ ´ëÇØ ¾ÈÀüÇÏ°í È¿À²ÀûÀ̶ó´Â Á¤º¸¸¦ Á¦°øÇÏ°íÀÚ ÇÑ´Ù.

This is a single case study to find out the effects of breathing meditation for premenstrual syndrome through the study participant who is a middle-aged woman of forties and, have difficulties in daily life and personal relationship because of physical and psychological suffering derived from the premenstrual syndrome. The study has proceeded successively according to ABAB design, performing 4 sessions of diagnostic assessment(15 days) at first baseline step(AÉÕ), 8 sessions of breathing meditation program(25 days) at first intervention step(BÉÕ), 2 sessions of diagnostic assessment(40 days) at second baseline step(AÉÖ) after intervention, 8 sessions of breathing meditation program(27 days) at second intervention step(BÉÖ). The meaningful decrease of symptoms was confirmed through analysing and interpreting the self-report pre-post worksheets for premenstrual symptoms, monthly reports for menstruation, assessments, counselling dialogue, and interviews collected by the above processes. Through the primary intervention for participant¡¯s premenstrual syndrome, there were 53% decrease on the stiffness of her eyebrow, nose, cheek and 30% decrease on constitutional symptom. There were also 24% decrease on muscle pain, digestive system and 35% decrease on genital system. In secondary intervention, there were 12% decrease on the stiffness of her eyebrow, nose, cheek and 20% increase on constitutional symptom. There were also 3.3% increase on muscle pain, digestive system and 20% decrease on genital system. In the somatic symptom inventory of assessment inventory, there was 33 points decrease(57 to 24) through the primary intervention. There was also 1 point increase(28 to 29) through the secondary intervention. In Ssi-3/5 inventory, there were 31 points decrease(64 to 33) through the primary intervention and 7 points decrease(42 to 35) through the secondary intervention. In nonacceptance and suppression inventory, there were 19 points decrease(57 to 38) through the primary intervention and 17 points decrease(46 to 29) through the secondary intervention. These results show that breathing meditation could help women experiencing the premenstrual syndrome reduce their somatic pains. Therefore, the researcher wish to provide information that the breathing meditation is a safe and helpful method which could reduce the premenstrual symptoms.
